MarSensing, created as a spin-off project of SiPLAB located at the University of Algarve, has as main objectives the development of technology, performance and consulting services in underwater acoustics. In line with this, could you assess the level of ICT development and application of technologies in the maritime sector in your region?

In our region the application of ICT technologies in the maritime sector is poor. To our best knowledge, there are almost no information devices at sea. The number of developer companies in the maritime sector is very reduced, or have no significance in GBP of the region.

How do you think that would improve communication flow between research centers and SMEs in the maritime sector?

Working together in applied development could contribute for closing the between Academia. Technology transfer from academia to industry is a recurring subject since many years. However, I am not sure that things have greatly improved. Companies need to be attracted to see the collaboration with academia in R&D activities as an interesting investment.

In recent years MarSensing has participated in a variety of multidisciplinary projects aimed especially at technological development and scientific research. Could you highlight any in particular?

No, we have not participated as consortium partner until now. We have supplied products, systems, and consultancy in the scope research projects several times.

Following the above, MarSensing is currently favoring some innovation in the maritime sector?

Yes, we continue our developments of acoustic acquisition systems, software, and science in our daily activities.

What measures have been taken internally in MarSensing to promote innovation processes in the sector?

We had a project that funded internationalization of our business. during 2013 to 2015 we participated in a significant number of international events, including exhibition of services and products. This was important, not only for the promotion of our company, but also to know the competitors and see what they are doing.

In relation to STAMAR, in what scale do you think that the project can contribute to improving the competitiveness of the maritime sector?

The idea underlying STAMAR seems to be right. I can't evaluate to which scale actions like this can impact on competitiveness.
